The simple step-by-step blueprint that guarantees professional sounding vocals at home

Rob Mayzes, Founder of Musician on a Mission

My fellow musician…

Have you ever felt like something was missing from your music?

Sure, we’re all perfectionists at heart.

But we should be able to get CLOSE to being happy, right? We all deserve that sense of satisfaction.

Yet every day, I hear from musicians around the world who are looking for that “missing ingredient” that will make their music sound professional.

I’d like to introduce you to one of them. His name is Jake Radford.

Jake came to me for help with his music

In April last year, Jake reached out to me for advice. He had hit a plateau with his music and was stuck. So we arranged a call.

Jake’s dream is to work full-time in the music industry. But for now he just wanted to improve the quality of his mixes so he wouldn’t be embarrassed to share his music.

But there was an issue. His mixes still sounded like “bedroom demos”.

He thought there was an issue with his mixes in general.

That wasn’t it.

There was a problem with the lead vocal - and that was impacting the rest of the track.

Here’s the thing:

If you want to make music that sounds professional, getting the vocals right is a crucial part of that process. If the vocals sound amateur, the whole mix is going to suffer.

Unfortunately I don’t have Jake’s work to show you, so let me give you another example instead.

Below is a track I wrote a couple of years ago.

I was on vacation and decided to run an experiment. I recorded a short EP in a rental apartment with a basic recording setup. So, what you're about to hear wasn't done in an expensive home studio.

Let’s start by listening to my first attempt at the vocal, without any editing or effects.

Honestly, it’s difficult for me to share this! I rely on heavy editing as a vocalist. I’m not a natural singer.

So, be aware that this sounds pretty awful. But I need to show you the contrast here.

Have a listen (BEFORE)...

And now with the lead vocal on its own (BEFORE).

This didn’t sound great. So, I tried a different room and changed the distance from the mic. Then I edited the vocal and added effects.

Let’s listen to the end product (AFTER).

And now just the vocal on its own (AFTER).

BIG difference. And that was with the exact same microphone. Can you hear how much it impacts the rest of the track, too?

Of course, this vocal has some relatively heavy effects on it. Your style of music may differ.

But the point still stands:

The quality of the vocals has a massive impact on the overall quality of your music.

So, if Jake had any chance of making it as a producer, or even releasing something that sounded professional…

He would have to fix his vocals first.

Turns out, one small change to Jake’s workflow was all that was missing...

One small change was all that was needed

So, I listened to a couple more of Jakes mixes, and the issue became obvious:

The vocal mix was fine, but the original recording needed a lot of work.

More specifically, Jake was recording vocals in a room with a lot of hard surfaces. You could hear the sound bouncing around the room on the recording. And when you record in a highly reflective room, you also get issues with frequencies cancelling each other out.

But there is an easy solution:

Acoustic treatment.

“Ugh, but that costs a fortune”.

Well, it doesn’t have to. In fact, as I told Jake, you can achieve a very similar outcome for free.

The DIY treatment trick

How?

With stuff lying around your home.

You already have loads of stuff that can be used as acoustic treatment.

You can use...

- Mattresses (the most effective but the most difficult to move around)

- Duvets (the thicker the better)

- Pillows (not as effective due to size but still helpful)

...and a bunch of other stuff.

So, this is what I told Jake.

His assignment for that week was to re-record the vocals on one of his tracks.

The results were exactly as I expected.

This small tip made a MASSIVE impact on Jake's music

A week later, I got on a call with Jake.

Within a few seconds I could tell the difference in his mood. He just seemed more confident.

“So, how did it go?” I asked.

“Dude… I can’t thank you enough. It made a world of difference.”

I listened to the new recording. And he was right.

So, I Jake’s case, the issue was the recording quality.

But the point I’m trying to make here isn’t that everyone needs to start dragging mattresses around their home...

The point is this:

Everyone makes mistakes. And when it comes to vocals, those mistakes can be costly.

But the mistakes that you're making will be different to the mistakes that Jake made.

And that’s where it gets tricky.

What mistakes are you making?

If you want to produce vocals that sound professional, you need to learn what mistakes you’re making. You need to find out what you’re missing.

How?

Well, you need structure. Without structure, you might skip important steps.

Yet most people are completely missing structure. Why? Because most people learn from YouTube and other free resources.

There’s so much information out there now that it takes YEARS to sift through it all to find the good stuff. And even then, it’s all broken up into bits and pieces.

There’s no structure, and this makes it easy to miss the important stuff.

(Plus, you never know who’s advice to trust. Everyone seems to suggest something different.)

Sure, you can go to books or blogs instead. Sometimes they have a little more structure. But they tend to be more theoretical and you can’t see or hear anything in action.

Once Jake had more structure, the quality of his music instantly improved.

He finally released that track. Not long after, Jake found his first client as a producer.

He’s well on his way to his dream of working full-time in the industry.

So, how do you get structure?

Until now, there wasn’t an easy way. Especially when it came to vocals.

So, I created Produce Pro Vocals to solve this problem. It’s an online course that gives you the complete structure for recording studio-quality vocals at home.

Introducing Produce Pro Vocals

Produce Pro Vocals is the world’s only step-by-step system for making radio-ready vocals in a home studio.

It covers everything, from initial recording to finished mix.

And it's completely self-paced. You can login and continue with the lessons whenever it suits you. The entire course is about 7 hours long.

Here’s the thing:

If you want to make music that sounds professional, getting the vocals right is a crucial part of that process. If the vocals sound amateur, the whole mix is going to suffer.

Let me give you an example. Here’s the same track without the vocals mixed, and then with the vocals mixed.

The vocals were the only thing that changed in these tracks. Did you notice how much of an impact it had on the overall mix?

So, here’s what you’ll learn inside to guarantee that your vocals sound awesome…

  • The best way to record your own vocals when you have nobody else to help
  • How to get the best possible sound at the source by finding the right mic placement
  • The proper techniques for subtly editing the vocal to perfection (comping, pitch correction, auto-tune and more)
  • How to use compression and EQ to make your vocals sound radio-ready
  • How to use effects to make your vocal sit perfectly in the mix
  • And so much more…

In addition to the core program, you also get access to these 2 free bonuses if you join Produce Pro Vocals before Thursday.

  • BONUS#1: Recording and Mixing for Beginners (learn the absolute basics of recording and mixing music at home)
  • BONUS #2: The Advanced Vocal Mixing Course (learn how to use specialist techniques like multiband compression)

ONE YEAR Money Back Guarantee

Give the program a try, and if you don’t see an improvement in the quality of your music, you have a whole year to request a refund.

I’m giving you a whole year in case life gets in the way or you struggle to find time to finish the course.

Even if you do the work and actually see an improvement, but it turns out you can’t afford the program or the monthly payments, just message us for a full refund.

I’ll even let you keep the bonuses, so you’re getting loads of free stuff AND your money back.

What do you have to lose? Worst case, you come away from this with a load of free stuff.

But to be absolutely clear, you need to finish the course and complete the assignments in order to request a refund. I'm only looking for students who actually intend to do the program, not people who want to abuse our lenient refund policy.

Meet some past students

"My mixes have improved 100%. Like surreal. And now I know how to approach the mix with intention. Still a lot to learn to be a master but this absolutely provides the most stable foundation to learn and deliver a quality product."

Will Lewis

"The course had a huge impact on my mixing. I went from almost coping EQ and compression settings found on youtube, to actually listen what the song nedded to get that sound I want. It was amazing!"

Rob Woolrich

"Rob really lays everything out and you can see real results in weeks rather than years. The support team at MOAM are second to none (even Rob replies). Being involved in service based industries over the years, I can really appreciate this."

Joe Howard

"For me, with my daily job, it is a good format. I can quickly login during some free time and do some sessions. Most change in my workflow is the speed of working. I work more efficiently. Without listening I already know what I can set as parameters for certain aspects in the mix."

Have any questions?

This sounds like a big commitment. Will I have enough time?

My main goal with this course is to SAVE you time.

How long would it take you to figure this stuff out on your own? Investing in this course is the faster option.

Plus, you get lifetime access. So you can take the course at your own pace, and if you can't login for a few days or weeks, no problem.

I am only a beginner. Will this program be too advanced for me?

I make sure that everything I teach is easy to understand, even for absolute beginners. This course is designed for beginners/intermediates, not advanced professionals. Plus, I have included a bonus mini-course that covers the absolute basics of recoridng and mixing.

My internet is pretty bad. Can I download the videos for offline viewing?

Yep! All of the videos are available for download if you don't want to stream them from the members area.

What's your refund policy?

You a whole year to request a refund, but you need to finish the course and complete the assignments to qualify.

Why should I trust your advice?

Let me make something clear - I don't have any big credits to my name. Sure, I have worked in multi-million dollar studios, and I learned from some of the best in the industry... but I don't think any of that matters.

I have been recording and mixing at home almost every day for over 12 years, both as a freelance mix engineer and musician. And THAT is what matters.

Everything you will learn inside this course is specific to home recording - not recording in a professional studio. This is about getting you results fast by giving you appropriate, actionable information.

Which DAW do you use?

I use Logic Pro X, but what I teach applies to any DAW.

I really want to join but I can't afford the masterclass. Can you help me?

Compared to a piece of audio equipment, this is extremely affordable. It's more logical to invest in yourself and your skills than more equipment that you don't need.

Investing in this course will save you money in the long term...

I spent tens of thousands and over 12 years learning this stuff. But I want to give you complete access for less than the cost of most premium plugins.

Plus, we have an affordable payment plan. You can get access today for only $69.

Music is just a hobby for me. Is this not a bit over the top?

How much is your time worth?

If music is just a hobby for you, I imagine you have a full time job and plenty of other commitments. That probably means that your time is scarce.

Joining this program will allow you to skip all the wasted time and frustration that comes with figuring this stuff out on your own, so you can focus on writing music and making the most of the little time you have.

Investing in your own skills rather than just buying more gear will help you to produce better music in less time.

I am already part of the membership program. How is this different?

This course is very different to the membership program. In this case, it's about going deep on one particular topic - vocals.

Whereas the membership is about ongoing development, and covering music production as a whole, the course is about quickly improving your vocals in the span of a few hours.

So they work well together!

Which genres does this course cover?

Most of what I teach applies to any genre, but whenever there are differences I do my best to give examples and specify what those differences are.

We also have a lesson on how to approach different genres.
