Would it be the same effect if you:

Place a compressor with a mix knob on the vocal channel as an insert and then use the mix knob to blend to taste?

If it’s functionally the same then it skips all the extra routing steps. Am I right in this thinking?

Yes, that would work exactly the same. Some people find it simpler to adjust the parallel compression amount using volume faders instead of mix knobs, but ultimately it would come down to your personal preference. The only downside to using the mix knob for blending is if you want to EQ the parallel compression differently than the original sound. Then you’d want to have it on another channel.

Hello. Maybe you folks could update the parallel compression cheatsheet to match the technique in your video? The cheatsheet I have doesn’t mention any of your technique..
    Thanks
